An article in the Colorado Springs Gazette a few months ago showed a movement to create wilderness area in the Browns Canyon area south of Johnson Village. I am wondering what has become of this movement. The web sites have not been updated since Hefley was in Congress. Looking at the map I only saw one of the National Forest Roads that would be impacted by the "proposed" boundaries. I don't trust the wilderness guys any more and I don't know if this is the true boundaries. I have been planning a trip through the area for a long time, but never seem to get there. Anyone have any information? Anyone supporting this movement?
I'm a huge advocate of supporting the existing wilderness areas, but am very judicious in my support of creating new wilderness. I look at it this way, I love to hike and will walk miles to see something unique in nature. However my father has two artificial hips and though he gets a long very well, but I don't see him making a long walk into the wilderness. By closing the roads you have denied him one more natural experience.
