This report comes from Eric Sheesly from the Colorado XJ List:

Hey All,
I went down to run Hackett Gulch on Saturday for the first time and just
thought I would give you all a little report on the trail conditions.
There was no snow on the trail and the river crossings are frozen over. The
"car wash" had a pretty decent size hole in the ice over to the right just
in front of the vertical pipe, if going towards Longwater. A very trail
worthy '88 4Runner with 35's and front and rear lockers with TSL Boggers
decided he needed to wash his wheels off in the water, so he dropped in.
The water was just short of the tops of his tires and he had a hell of a
time getting out almost rolling it over once or twice. The ice is about
6-7" thick and was really hanging up on his front axle when he would get one
wheel on top of the ice. Chicken scratch will was conquered by my XJ with
open diffs, allot of flex and a "little" momentum. The locked and
Trac-Loc'ed rigs up there had no problem getting up. There was a stock YJ
up there with BFG AT's that needed the assistance of the before mentioned
4Runner and another 4Runner with a rear locker, strapped together to get her
up the hill.
Anyway, I thought it was a fun trail but could've used some more obstacles
on it, too much open road in between. I guess in the summer it would be a
little more fun with the rivers opened up.
I would like to get with the group and make this or some other run sometime
Happy trails,

Eric S.

I was out at Hackett and Longwater today.
Varying depth 2"-4" snow.
I didn't run all the way down to the river, but traction was pretty good. http://www.4x4trails.net/ubb/tongue.gif
Pretty fun right now, should be clear soon.
