Grand Junction Desert Mesa, CO: Trail Head: N 39?7.234`, W 108?32.849` Trail End: N 39?11.556`, W 108?28.535` Delorme CO Atlas & Gazeteer pg: 43, 4-D Nearby Trails: Coming Soon. Access: From the center of Grand Junction, CO take 12th St./'27.00Rd. North to H Rd. Take H East to your first left which should be 27.25 Rd. Take 27.25 Rd. North out of town. You will come to a fork after a few miles, stay right on 27.25 Rd. There are many ways to get to these "hills" 27.25 rd., 29 rd. and 33 rd. and all of these roads connect once you are north of I-70. ![]() Trail: The OHV area consists of rolling prarie hills and water run-off draws, some of these draws are large enough to swallow a full-size. The area is easily accessable and a stock 4x4 full size or Jeep should have no problems. The majority of the area is dominated by "roller-coaster" hills made up of clay and rabitt brush. The main road(27.25rd) is just a washboard dirt road with many roads forking off of it. This area is rockless until you reach the end of the 7 miles on 27.25 rd. ,where you are face to face with the Bookcliff range(the Range that is also part of the infamous 21 road). These forks off of the main road are where the fun can be had with rolling knolls and supercross tabletops. Be careful of motorcycles, ATVs and sandrails, as these vehicles do travel thru this area at high speed. I have had the plesure of "roaming these hills in a few different vehicles, 2 full size Dodge diesels, an early '66 Bronco and a pre-runner Bronco II. When the weather is fair, those with lighter, long travel pre-runner rigs will have the most fun, as there are many areas to jump and frolic. Take heed, as when the rains come down, this area is dominated by mud running full size pickups, the hard clay ground becomes thick sticky "snot", not easily cleared from tire treads. Once the ground is wet, this area is no longer an area for a stock 4x4 as it will swallow lesser augmented rigs. I recommend aggressive tread mud tires and at least limited slips on both ends, without these and recovery vehicles, you will walk home; winches are of no use if you are solo because there are no trees or anything else to winch to.
