Please send trail access directions to 4x4Trails.net. Thanks for your help! Trail: Chiva Falls is in the Reddington Pass area East of Tucson. There are several trails in this general vicinity, but they aren't easily all run in one day. When the Falls are running, Chiva Falls is gorgeous. Even in the dry season, it's a (Hot) good trip. Chiva (Also known as "Chivo" in some circles) is difficult, but not as difficult as some of the Florence area trails. On a one to ten scale, it's probably a seven or eight. Recently, one of the main difficult spots has been graded, but there are still plenty of challenges. The trail is ambiguous in the "Parking lot" just head southeast and it becomes obvious. At .8 miles, you reach "Three Feathers". This is the area that has been recently graded. The more difficult track is the left side. The road crosses two cattle guards and Chiva Tank before you need to bear right at a "T" at 2.8 miles. (Going left at this "T" takes you back out to Reddington road as an easier alternative return route.) Bear left at the cattleguard at 3.2 miles and right at 3.3 miles. (Now you're on FR 4405.) Cross the creek, bear right then bear left at 4.1. Descend steep rocky hill. Most people stop at 4.4 miles. The next few hundred yards is a little "Tippy". I pull forward to the rocky canyon. The hike to the Falls, which are really cool with a big shady pool at the base of forty foot falls when running, is another hundred and some yards up the boulder-strewn creek bottom. Two words of caution: First, the rocky road up the west side of the falls is steep, treacherous, and goes nowhere. Second, every year someone falls off the natural rock spillway and dies when they hit the bottom after hiking up around the Falls. Be CAREFUL.
