Access: From I-70, take exit 240 in Idaho Springs south on Colorado Highway 103 for 10 miles. To access the trail, turn left at the sign just after the first big turn past Ponder Picnic Area. The road climbs up onto a ridge with views of Mt. Evans, Devil's Canyon and Chicago Creek. This road crosses several meadows and goes through an area that was burned in a forest fire several years ago. This road is closed to motorized vehicles in the winter until June 15th to minimize disturbances during the elk calving season.

Trail: Devil's Canyon is a very easy trail just South of Idaho Spring, CO. There are a number of trails that criss-cross each other and there is no real end to the trail. You must enter and leave at the same place. There are some very nice camping spots that some high clearance stock vehicles could make it to and there some great views of Mt. Evans. This trail system would be an ideal starting place for 4x4 'newbies' to test out their vehicles without fear of doing any damage. There are some hill climbs that might be a little tougher if it were raining, but for the most part, the trail relatively simple.
