Access: These trails are fun and have different type of obstacles to conquer. Located in the Los Padres Forest, the trails can be accessed from the Lockwood Valley road about 12.5 miles from the Interstate 5 turn off for the small town of Frazier Park. Frazier Parkis located between Bakersfield and Los Angeles. From the Fwy you must go into the town of Frasier where there are restaurants, various food establishments and gas stations. This is the best place to pick up those last minute supplies and your gas.
Take Cuddy rd. through town and beyond approx. 2.5 miles to Lockwood Valley Rd. Turn left and follow this approximatley 10 miles to a left turn onto a dirt rd. The GPS coord. should be N 34?45.319? and W 119?03.123?. There should be a sign there that says Lockwood Creek and Alamo Mtn. Follow the dirt road back to a T intersection going left will take you up into the mtns. Right will take you to the trail. This is a good place to air down and get your vehicle ready for the first section of trail which is Lockwood Creek Trail.

Trail: The first section is steep and can have some pretty good steps going up. I rate this trail a 6-7 with some pretty good obstacles first starting out. This part of the trail is approx. 6 miles long. The trail will follow ridgelines across the hills and has great views of various valleys in the area. You?ll drop down the mountain on a series of switchbacks into Lockwood creek and travel up the creek to the confluence of Lockwood creek and Piru Creek. You?ll recognize it as you cross the creek and enter a large stand of cottonwood trees. This is a great place to take a break and get ready for the next part of the trail, which is the Miller Jeep trail section. This should be GPS coord. 34.43.989?N and 119.02.647?W.

This portion of Trail I rate a 7-8 for it?s large rocks and ruts which must be maneuvered through and over. It?s approx. 1.75 miles long but don?t let the short distance fool you. It will get your attention and there really are no alternates for the obstacles. Good lines and steady traction should get you up to the top of Alamo mtn without a problem. At the top of the trail you?ll come out on top of the mtn with the road going left and right. This is one continuous road around the top of the mtn. The shortest way down at this point is to go left, and follow it around until you find the road going down. There should be a sign, which says Gold Hill Rd. FR 8N01. This is a dirt rd for a portion of the way down and then turns into asphalt. From the top of Alamo Mtn. It?s approx. 16 miles out to Interstate 5 and Gorman. You?ll pass through the Hungry Valley Off Hiway Vehicle State Park. There is gas and food and hotel at Gorman. It?s a full day of wheelin on this trail and is a lot of fun. It?s pretty much an all year access to this area but can get warm during summer and occasionally will get snow.

A side note here worth mentioning. The Los Padres Forest has the Adventure Pass enforcement. You can purchase the pass at some of the stores in Frasier. The Trails are Adopt A Trails which are maintained by the Point Mugu 4 wheelers. In October the club puts on a great Halloween run with spooks and goblins and the whole works. It goes late into the night. You can reach the club at:
